Hi There
I’m Molly Burd!
I have been professional seamstress and alteration specialist for nearly a decade. In that time, I worked in Bridal and Military alterations, pattern design, and cut and sew- while taking on custom commissions when I could. I made the leap to begin my own journey in 2023. While my full time gig is alterations, I am excited about my expansion into the wedding world.
Why alterations?
I have loved sewing since I was a little girl, curiously observing both my grandma and mom. I kept up sewing randomly throughout my childhood and knew I wanted to go to college for fashion design. However, I also knew I didn’t necessarily want to become a fashion designer as that seemed like a rather tough task to stand out in a world full of aspiring fashion designers. I realized, I prefer to make the garment, fix it even, without necessarily coming up with the original idea. So, I noticed a hole in the younger generation of seamstresses and aspiring designers….alterations. It made perfect sense for me! I have always had a “mathy” brain- so looking at alterations through the eyes of a clothing engineer was more my speed. I thoroughly enjoy the challenge of making a garment fit perfectly. Hemming to the ideal length, taking in around the waist, fixing this and that…I love it!
Why onsite steaming?
Each time I have been lucky enough to be a part of a wedding, I have also loaded up my industrial steamer and didn’t think twice about making sure the dresses all looked perfect. Then it hit me! Who else is doing this? No way someone’s mom is steaming all these dresses with a personal steamer (or praying the shower steam will magically help). It’s the problem you didn’t know existed until it’s 10am on your wedding day and photos are in an hour. (Trust me) I can smooth out your problems, one dress at a time!
